Qualified

Qualified

…giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, … (Colossians 1: 12-13 NKJV, read Colossians 1 for context)

Most biblical scholars believe Paul wrote his letter to the church at Collose, about AD 60, during his first imprisonment in Rome. Paul had not personally been to Collose, but he still had a great love for the church there.

Epaphras, a native of Colosse, and Timothy had helped to establish this church, not Paul. It is believed that Epaphras visited Paul in prison and shared about the progress of his church and had informed Paul of the problem of false teachers who were influencing the church.

Followers of Christ were being led astray from God’s truth …

Like then, there are Christians today who are being tempted to believe falsely. Many believers in Christ do not know the rich inheritance God has prepared for them and do not realize their true purpose in Him.

God has preserved His Word for us to study so we will not be led astray by false doctrine. God’s love for us is poured out in the letters of Paul and others in the New Testament. What magnificent truths we can discover as we read these love letters to us!

It is interesting to study the words Paul chose to write in his letter. He could have reprimanded the early church at Colosse, discussing point by point the error of their beliefs; but he chose instead, under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, to share lovingly how he and others were praying for them. He shared his personal testimony of faith, too, and revealed the truth of God’s great inheritance for believers in Jesus Christ:

I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God,
the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints.
To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of the mystery among the Gentiles:  which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus… (Colossians 1: 25-28 NKJV)

Do we grasp how wonderful our inheritance is?

Wisdom and spiritual understanding can be found in Jesus Christ, who redeemed us and now holds authority over all things.

Prayer:

Father, thank you for Paul and his obedience to You. Thank you too for the other saints who obediently surrendered their lives to serve You. May we hear Your voice clearly and fully understand the mystery of our great inheritance in You. Please empower us by Your Spirit to be willing to stand for Truth with Your loving compassion. It is in Jesus’s mighty name we pray. Amen

  1. May we be reminded of the enemies schemes by reading God’s words. By reading we can prevent the false teachings and doctrines from deceiving us.
    The truth remains the same…
Jesus, the same yesterday, today and forever!
