Peace in the Battle
Inheritance of Christ’s Peace
by Brenda D. Flowers
Ephesians 6:15 NKJV and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace:
In America, as election day approaches, and even in some of our Christian homes, there is no denying … a battle is raging.
Evil mocking and hurtful words blast through the air waves. A giant is waging war and many people are complacent, caught in indecisiveness or fear.
Do we see this mocking giant for who he really is?
Are we choosing to sit at the battle line doing nothing while our culture embraces more and more his false banter as truth?
These are questions I’ve asked myself.
I have come to the conclusion that I don’t want to remain quiet, doing nothing. I want to raise my voice as David, the shepherd, did long ago when he faced the Philistine giant, “for the battle is the LORD’s and He will give you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17: 47b, NKJV)
As soldiers in God’s army, we are to be strong, courageous and prepared, knowing who we are in Christ. Our armor and actions matter.
It is interesting to me that God emphasized the importance of our feet being shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Have you ever thought about why the scripture says these words? After studying the Bible and commentaries on the armor of God, I realize more and more the depth of this statement. God truly prepares us as we study His word and spend time with Him.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path (Psalm 119: 105)
Here is what I’ve discovered. Battles are not won by soldiers who have fear. Gospel means good news. When we have peace in our hearts, we do not have fear. A soldier must wear armor, including special shoes that fit him well, in order for him to be effective in battle. With God’s help, we receive our unique shoes of peace (so to speak). By going through personal battles or trials and coming out victoriously, God prepares us for greater battles. We can be assured that God’s peace is given to us as part of our inheritance in Him, the Prince of Peace.
If we are willing to step into this spiritual battle for Truth, being willing to give God the glory, we are prepared ahead of time with His perfect peace. This is the good news we can stand on, proclaimed by Jesus:
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14: 27)
Prayer: Lord, thank you for preparing us for the spiritual battles we face. May we remain sure footed in Your Peace, knowing the battle is Yours. We give You the glory for the Victory is Yours. In Your mighty name, Jesus, we pray. Amen
Pretty awesome great word
