Stewards of Our Inheritance

Stewards of Our Inheritance
by Brenda D. Flowers

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ABBA, Father….
and if children, then heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together (Romans 8: 15, 17)

Our life circumstances have changed drastically as the battle against Corona virus has intensified. Many of us are confined to our homes or even our rooms. Some are serving on the frontlines in positions of great responsibility and danger.

But in reality, we all face a hidden enemy daily. Corona virus may be a new threat but the results of sin in our world and the tactics of our true enemy are not.

Where do people find true hope in times of hurt, sickness, fear, loneliness, or despair?

It is in times like these when people search for help and answers to their questions.
As a child of God, I have that hope. I ask myself…Am I living daily in a way that shows I have the hope of resurrection life and a great inheritance? As Christians, we are called to be ready with an answer for the hope we have in Christ. (See 1 Peter 3:15)

In this season of forced seclusion, I believe God is speaking to us about the importance of being a good steward of all that He has given us. Are we listening to what He is saying during this unique time of challenge? With additional family in my house, I find I must prioritize my time with God to make the time to read His word, pray, and listen to what He is teaching me.

I know the Way to peace. Lord,  help me to live my life in a way that leads people to You, the Prince of Peace. With so much negativity in the world and even in my home at times, I cry out for help, and God is faithful to bring encouragement.

Through hard times, I personally have been comforted by meditating on God’s Word and the truth of our great inheritance in Christ. As a Christian, I am an heir of God’s Grace and of His great and glorious Kingdom. Meditating on this truth is foundational to the joy I experience and share.

God is teaching me the importance of having an attitude of gratitude even in the hard times. Keeping a Thanksgiving journal and Prayer journal have been practical ways for me to remind myself of God’s help in past times of need and His answers to prayer. When I speak to people, I can share how God has blessed me and answered my past prayers. How God has been there for me becomes a part of my testimony of faith to others.

As we share our testimonies we are giving God glory. What a great purpose we have as children of God and stewards of His kingdom on earth. It is amazing to think about how our stories are instrumental to His story.

God is challenging me to see how I am called to be a good steward or overseer of more than just monetary resources. I want to be a good steward of all my resources, relationships, time, abilities and opportunities He gives me each day, trusting His mercies are new every morning to help me.

Prayer:

Lord, please open our understanding so we may fully comprehend the Scriptures and experience Your present help in time of need. During these times of isolation and challenge, may we steward all that you have given us with grateful hearts. Thank you for Your Holy Spirit who comforts and guides us daily. We want to give You the glory by the way we live our lives. May we be found faithful. In Your mighty name, Jesus, we pray. Amen

  1. Many of us are experiencing similar challenges during this most unordinary time…
(different than any of us have ever encountered).
Our only constant is the Lord with His unchanging ways. Thank you for sharing!
