Inheritance as a Promise

Inheritance as a Promise
by Judy Hitson

Ephesians 1:14 NLT The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.

Remember learning as a child, “A promise is a promise is a promise?” Though we have all been disappointed when someone breaks their promise to us, we can be sure God keeps His promises.

Today, capture God’s promise of His Holy Spirit who gives life(John 6:63; 2Cor.3:6) and His promise of inheritance for us as the people of God.

Did you catch in our key verse that God’s Spirit is the guarantee of His promise of inheritance?

Draw close to Jesus in Spirit and truth. Be embraced in His love for you and discover or dig deeper into this promise. We have so much to look forward to in the future but so much to treasure in the promises of God for today.

As Christians we sing “Standing on the Promises” (of God) and are amazed when they become a reality.

Since I received the Holy Spirit, I continue to be amazed by His power, love and sound mind (2 Tim.1:7). It is Christ in me the hope of glory (Col.1:27). From the smallest incident to a major incident in daily living, the life of the Holy Spirit cannot be overestimated.

For example, when one of our sons was a young child, he got sand in his eye at the sandbox. I asked, Lord, we are not close to house, what should I do? The thought of Jesus in Scripture using spit and his hand to heal a blind man came to mind. I swiped my son’s eye with some of his spit and he was immediately relieved. It may seem small and silly or you may believe the Spirit of God led me to help my son in that way.

Another example I’d call a major incident was listening to the Holy Spirit rather than the wisdom of man. A surgeon told my husband that it was a no brainer, he needed radical major surgery for the diagnosis of a rare form of recto-colon cancer. You can imagine the shock of that news! As we sought the Lord in prayer and had many others praying, we agreed on an alternate route through natural medicine. We visited a Christian doctor who years prior was sent home to die with a brain tumor. The Lord healed him. The Lord also healed my husband. That was fourteen years ago at this writing. Praise the Lord.

Prayer: Father in heaven when we believed in Christ, You called us Your own, giving us the promise of Your Holy Spirit (Eph.1:13). Thank You for this guarantee and promise of Your inheritance as Your people. Help us give You praise and glorify You in Jesus name.

Amen.
