Freedom to Think

Freedom to Think
by Judy Hitson

Pr.23:7a For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

Profound insight for us is to consider what we are thinking. As our key verse says, what we think is who we are.

How would you describe your think tank?

There is an old saying, a penny for your thoughts. Wish we were face to face to discuss this topic because of the importance of it. We all face battles of the mind in our lives. It is what we do with the battles that produce victory or defeat. God has given us a free will to make choices. The freedom to think can be a blessing or a curse. As we look into God’s Word, we can find many verses in reference to our thinking. As I took time to research this, three words came to mind that are interrelated. with the following Scripture verses, note and meditate on these three words: Think, Thoughts and Mind.

1. Think – Phil. 4:8 NASB Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

2. Thoughts – Is. 26:3 NLT You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

3. Mind – Col. 3:2 AMP Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth (which have only temporal value).

Let’s choose God’s freedom to think according to His Word. Let’s dig deeper into the Word of God discovering what He has to say day by day and be transformed more and more by the renewing of our minds (Rom. 12:2). There are other Bible verses coming to mind to help us on this journey, such as
1 Cor. 2:16 NKJV For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
2 Cor. 10:5 NKJV casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
Rom. 1:28 NLT Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things but those controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.

Prayer: Father in heaven help us be transformed by the renewing of our minds to think like You according to Your Word (Is. 55:8-9) in Jesus name and by Your Spirit. Amen.
