Trust in God

Trust in God
by Judy Hitson

Proverbs 3:5 NLV Trust in the Lord* with all your heart,
and do not trust in your own understanding.

*Psalm 33:12 GNT Happy is the nation whose God is the LORD….

Trust is a matter of the heart. It is a matter of who or what we rely on. We need to consider the state of our own heart. Note the following contrast of the heart in Scripture:

Jeremiah 17:9 GNT “Who can understand the human heart?
There is nothing else so deceitful; it is too sick to be healed.

Ezekiel 36:26 GNT I will give you a new heart and a new mind. I will take away your stubborn heart of stone and give you an obedient heart.

God reveals to us that only He can change our heart by His Spirit. Ezekiel 36:27 GNT I will put my Spirit in you and will see to it that you follow my laws and keep all the commands I have given you.

Questions we need to ask and discern:

Do I have a new heart?

Where is my trust, in God or myself?

Who or on what am I relying?

In our key verse, God tells us to trust in Him with all our heart, not in our own understanding. The verse that follows is an encouraging promise of God, Proverbs 3:6 GNT Remember the LORD in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.

Pray the Word:

Psalm 139:23-24 NASB Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way.

Psalm 141:3 KJV Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth;
keep the door of my lips.

Psalm 19:14 NASB Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.

Hymn: I need Thee every hour

Let us trust in the Lord with all our heart and be blessed to know our God is the LORD.
