Trust God’s Promises

Trust God’s Promises
by Judy Hitson

2 Peter 1:4 NLT And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

Are you trusting God’s promises that enable you to share His divine nature?

Like searching for gold, we have the privilege to dig hidden treasures for our life in God’s word, the precious promises He has given us to share His divine nature.

God says what He means and He means what He says. 2 Cor.1: 19 NLT For Jesus Christ, the Son of God, does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” ……….as God’s ultimate “Yes,” he always does what he says.

I heard, “Get personal.”Do promises come to mind God has given you?

A promise that continues to impact my life is 1 John 1:9 NASB If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Confessing sin was familiar to me from childhood. The problem was no sooner I’d get home, I felt I needed to go back to the confessional. My mind was troubled as a sinner until I received Christ and Holy Spirit. The accuser of the brethren reminded me of personal sins day and night, Rev. 12:10. That is until the promise of 1 John 1:9 assured me when I confess my sins to God, He not only forgives me but cleanses me of all unrighteousness. This brought a new freedom in Christ in daily living.

Another promise that affects me is Matt.11:28-30 NASB “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

To take off hard and heavy yokes and put on the yoke of Christ that is easy and light is a rewarding learning  process by the Spirit. It brought me to a new level in the freedom of Christ.

Receiving God’s forgiveness and putting on His yoke increased my trust in His promises. Self reliance and self righteousness brings bondage. Relying on God’s promises and His righteousness brings freedom.

Prayer: God help me trust Your promises more each day with full assurance in Christ Jesus and the Spirit giving life. Amen.

In closing, consider the lyrics of “Standing on the Promises” by R.Kelson Carter. His back story to writing this hymn is worth a Google Search.
