Trust God in Prayer

Trust God in Prayer
by Judy Hitson

1 Chronicles 5:20 GNT They put their trust in God and prayed to him for help, and God answered their prayers and made them victorious over the Hagrites and their allies.

Think of a time you put your trust in God in prayer and He answered you?

As I consider that question for my life, I reflect back when I listened to testimonies of how God answered prayer. I said, “Lord, I feel like my prayers do not get further than the ceiling. These people share like they are having conversations with You.” That was many years ago before I knew the Lord. After I received the Holy Spirit, I could understand prayer through a personal love relationship with Jesus Christ, my Lord and my God (John 20:28), because I trusted Him.

Looking at the context of our key verse in Chronicles, we will find men going to war crying out to God in prayer because they trusted Him and God gave them victory over their enemies and allies.

Have you experienced victory over enemies in your life because you trusted God in prayer?

There are many times that God gave me victory over enemies in my life because I put my trust in Him and prayed to Him for help. First, I think of the victory God gave when He delivered me from the power of darkness and translated me into the kingdom of His dear Son, Col. 1:13, NMB. Following this were various battles of my mind such as fear, doubt, anxiety, anger to rage, selfishness, greed, pride and others. In each instance, God gave me victory from these enemies as I put my trust in Him and prayed to Him for help. He answered me with what I call Divine exchanges such as His Spirit of power, love and a sound mind for fear (2Tim.1:7), faith for doubts (James 1:6), peace for anxiety (Phil. 4:6-8), the righteousness of God for anger (James 1:20; Eph. 4:26; Pr. 15:1), humility for selfishness (Phil. 2:3), generosity for greed (2Cor 8:3; Luke 12:15),to be humble not proud ( James 4:6; 1Peter 5:5b; Pr. 11:2, Pr. 29:23)

These victories deepened my trust in God and gave me a greater desire to learn how to pray. Jesus taught His disciples how to pray(Luke 11:1-4; Matt. 6:9-13).  I learned from His instructions how to pray to my Father in heaven, not with vain repetition but engaging in personal communion with Him. I became aware of prayers through the Bible. Learning to pray without ceasing (1Thess. 5:17)is a continuing lesson. “Prayer is like breathing.” (quote I read in one of Andrew Murray’s books). On closing, I think about Jesus’ prayer to Father in John 17, The High Priestly Prayer that we all may be one. Let us look at this and pray for deeper revelation and understanding for our lives.

Prayer: Help me trust You God in prayer. Thank You Father in Jesus name for Your Spirit in me who gives life. Amen.

  1. Amen!!! I grew up thinking an Our Father or Hail Mary would do. Some one taught me to pray in a way that Jesus liked. “Enter His courts with thanksgiving and praise”, always in Jesus Name. My life was transformed by this invaluable information and from then on my communication with God skyrocketed! At this time we enjoy our fellowship with God, but we need to share with others how to touch our Great Gods’ heart. They say there are so many conversion and no one to teach them how to fellowship with their God. We need to share what we have.
