Freedom of the Cross

Freedom of the Cross
by Judy Hitson

Galatians 6:14-15 MSG For my part, I am going to boast about nothing but the Cross of our Master, Jesus Christ. Because of that Cross, I have been crucified in relation to the world, set free from the stifling atmosphere of pleasing others and fitting into the little patterns that they dictate. Can’t you see the central issue in all this? It is not what you and I do–submit to circumcision, reject circumcision. It is what God is doing, and he is creating something totally new, a free life!

As I write, it is Lenten season. During this time, as Christians, we consider how our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ walked Calvary Road to suffer and die on the Cross. He was the perfect sacrificial Lamb of God, who alone could take away the sins of the world, including yours and mine. He willingly died, so we could live with Him. Remember He came from heaven to earth, emptied Himself in the form of a Man to die on a cross, Phil.2:7-8 NCV.

There are two hymns that come to mind as I think about the cross of Christ, titled, “Wonderful, Merciful Savior” by Selah and “Walking Free” by Micah Taylor.  I hope you will take time to view these videos and meditate on the words of the lyrics. Think on the suffering of Christ that brought us freedom and forgiveness of our sins.

Now our challenge is to contemplate on another cross that brings freedom for us who heed the words of Christ to take up our cross daily and follow Him.
Luke 9:23 NKJV Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”

Do you know this life in Christ by His Spirit?

It is worth denying ourselves to take up our cross daily and follow Jesus Christ who gave His life for us.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Thank You for saying Yes to Father to come from heaven to earth to die on the cross of Calvary to save us from our sins that we may live eternally with You. Help us seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness to discover freedom of the cross. Holy Spirit help us to deny ourselves, take up our cross daily and follow Jesus Christ. Amen.
