Trust God’s Names

Trust God’s Names
by Judy Hitson

Psalm 29:2 NASB Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in holy array.

How is it possible to tighten up the many names of God found in the Bible for this devotional writing? The following question came to mind and I believe it is from the Lord for us:

When you think of the names of God, is there one that comes to mind right now?

Each of us can fill in the blank and perhaps find the name of God pertinent to our present situation. That is a wonderful thing. Let us be attune to the word of God and the voice of God in regard to His names.

Two names of God came to mind initially, Jehovah Rapha, our God who heals and Jehovah Jireh, our God who provides. These are of utmost importance in my life for ways God heals and provides for me.

Later the word SOZO came to mind and my heart leaped with the reality of God as Savior, Deliverer and Healer. His saving grace provided me with His salvation when I received the life of His Holy Spirit, John 3:5. He delivered me from the kingdom of darkness and transferred me to the kingdom of His beloved Son, Col.1:13. I cried out to the LORD my God for help, and He healed me, Ps. 30:2.

The names of God on a greeting card at Precept Ministries in Chattanooga, TN ministered to the depths of my being as I discovered Hebrew names of God translated to English. I joined a women’s Bible study, “Lord I Want to Know You,” a devotional study on the names of God by Kay Arthur.

Later I joined a local Moms In Touch group to pray for our children and schools.  Again I met with the names of God, His character and His attributes to pray and trust God’s names.

His names confirm His character and tell us who He is. We are blessed to feel secure and hopeful in the presence of God as we consider and pray His names. Gideon when he built an altar to the LORD, named it, Jehovah-Shalom, “The LORD is Peace,” Judges 6:24.

In closing, this verse comes to mind, Colossians 3:4 NASB When Christ who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Let us “ascribe to the LORD the glory due to His name”…..

Prayer: O LORD, You are my God;
I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name;
             For You have worked wonders,
Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.
Isaiah 25:1
