Inheritance of Light

Inheritance of Light
by Brenda D. Flowers

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.” (John 8:12, NKJV)

As I write this, it has been over forty days since we in America and in the world have had to drastically change our daily routines. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, American citizens were to shelter in place at home and practice social distancing. In compliance with our government guidelines, our churches, schools, and many places of business have turned off their lights. Familiar buildings and main streets are dark.

Yet, in the midst of this darkness, I keep hearing… “I have come to give you light.”

In John 12:46, we can read Jesus’ words, “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.”

Like me, are you experiencing the light of God’s Word in new ways?

There are glimmers of hope being shared to brighten our hearts.

Christians from all over the world are coming together in new and creative ways for virtual prayer times. Individuals and families are setting aside times to intentionally communicate. Some Christians are called to humbly pray for the healing of our land with prayers of repentance. There are also intercessors uniting to pray for another great awakening in America.

Could it be…a great awakening is happening now?

I believe more and more people are realizing the truth of God’s Word and the eyes of their understanding are being enlightened.

In Psalms 13, David was experiencing a great time of darkness in his life. During his crisis, he cried out to God: “Consider and hear me, O LORD my God; Enlighten my eyes, Lest I sleep the sleep of death.” Like David, many of us are learning to be real with God in our prayers.

We can trust when we seek God sincerely, we will find Him and He will love us with His perfect love.

Jesus knows our struggles. He is intimate with all our ways. He is our great High Priest interceding for us. (See Hebrews 4:14-16)

Great anticipation is filling my heart, even in the midst of this time of uncertainty.

For You will light my lamp;
The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.  ..
.(Psalm 18: 27, 28, NKJV)

As followers of Christ, we are not left in the darkness.

Closing Prayer:
Father of Lights, thank You for what You are teaching me as I walk through this time of darkness. Help me sincerely follow Jesus and be a light so others may come to know You.
Thank You for Your promise of an inheritance in a land of eternal light. Amen
