Land of Our Inheritance

Land of Our Inheritance
by Judy Hitson

Psalm 135:12 NLT He gave their land as an inheritance a special possession to his people.

First, let’s look at that which is eternal, not temporal, that which is spiritual, not of this physical world.

How do we do that when we are talking about land?

Consider with me, Joshua 13:1 NLT When Joshua was an old man, the LORD said to him, “You are growing old and much land remains to be conquered.”

When I read those words in my daily Bible reading, the Lord spoke to me that there is much land that remains to be conquered in the Spirit.

There was a sense of relief, like a burden lifted and revelation. My generation passes the baton to the next generation to conquer the land not yet conquered.

You may be growing old like me and see much land remains to be conquered, or you may be part of a younger generation carrying a new mantle on your journey of faith. In either case, we are one in the Lord called to occupy until He comes.

Our inheritance of land involves getting rid of enemies. Let’s ask ourselves:

What enemies are lurking in the land of my inheritance?

In my life, I  need to conquer my temperament and food idolatry. Hebrews 12: 1 talks about the sin that so easily trips us up, that ensnares us.

The Lord has revelation and  understanding for us through the Old and New Testament. They are not simply historical stories but for us to learn promised land living in the Spirit today.

Deut. 7:1-2 NLV “The Lord your God will bring you into the land you are taking for your own. He will drive away many nations in front of you, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations bigger and stronger than you.
2 When the Lord your God gives them to you and you win the battles against them, you must destroy all of them. Make no agreement with them and show no favor to them.

I discovered with Google search the 7…”ites – Teaching by Pastor Max Holland, New Life Baptist Church.” His words on the Hivites struck me, “their vision was limited to enjoy earthly inheritance, hedonism.” The definition of hedonism – “1. the doctrine that pleasure or happiness is the highest good. 2. devotion to pleasure as a way of life..”

Prayer: Lord bless us with revelation and understanding of the land You’ve given us as an inheritance a special possession. Help us by Your Spirit to utterly destroy enemies in our land to partner with You and not partner with the enemy. In Your name Jesus we pray. Amen.

  1. Judy, this is truly the word of today! I’ve been fighting the burgerites, the cookieites, the cakites!!! The weight problem is the consequence of the enemies I refuse to battle. I know that this is the absolute time in history to be overcoming my enemies. Lord have mercy!!! Love, Cathy
