Receive the Eternal Inheritance

Hebrews 9:15 TPT (The Passion Translation) So Jesus is the One who has enacted a new covenant with a new relationship with God so that those who accept the invitation will receive the eternal inheritance he has promised to his heirs. For he died to release us from the guilt of the violations committed under the first covenant.

As Christians, at some point in our lives, we accepted God’s invitation for a new relationship with Him through Jesus Christ in the new covenant. Soak in the reality of receiving His eternal inheritance. 

What is the eternal inheritance?

1 Peter 1:4 NIV tells us it will never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven. It is for us who had a new birth, a new covenant, a new life. Other translations speak of this eternal inheritance as special blessings, priceless, pure that will last forever. Our security is in heaven, not on earth. We are children of God in the family of God. God is our Father in heaven. He gives us this inheritance. It is a gift we receive and not something we earn.

Remember Jesus’ words from the Sermon on the Mount, “but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:20-21 NKJV)

Let us think about things in heaven not on this earth to live Christ, to follow His example on earth to walk in sacrificial love and care more for others than ourselves.  

Our choices on earth affect us through eternity.

Jesus came that we may have life and have it to the full from John 10:10b NIV.

Consider our life in Christ from the following perspective in Hebrews 9:

12 eternal redemption – Christ Jesus delivered us from sin through sacrificing His life on the cross for us.  

14 eternal Spirit  – Christ Jesus rose from the dead and left His Spirit on earth for us to receive His life.

15 eternal inheritance – a gift reserved in heaven for us to share in what belongs to Him.

What amazing blessings are ours in Christ as we follow Him on this earth, like His peace in the midst of chaos, His love in the midst of a world in opposition to Him. As we set our minds on things above, the Lord reveals blessings that await us in heaven, like His eternal inheritance for us who belong to Him who sits on the throne in heaven.

Prayer: Father in heaven, bless us with revelation and understanding of the eternal inheritance promised to Your heirs that we may live on earth as it is in heaven. In Your name Jesus and by Your Holy Spirit. Amen.
